Apple (read: Steve Jobs) defends ban on Adobe’s Flash on portable devices. It’s a concise, logical open letter authored by Steve himself (or at least written with his blessing). Call me a fanboy (ok, I am) - but I DO believe in the rational El Stevo is laying out here. Open standards on the web is a must. Letting Adobe control video delivery on the web, let alone a secondary development layer on portable devices (specifically Apple’s) would be a disaster and would cause pain for most parties involved.
One of the many great points Jobs makes about Flash is that it was developed for old PCs and mice. The new era of computing and touch devices don’t even support outmoded features like roll-over states. Steve’s ultimate point - If developers need to rework their flash content to update them for modern hardware and UI concepts, then why not just revise to use open web standards that are ubiquitously supported, not controlled and limited by one company, but rather standards committees and the tech community at large.
